Award Description: Highway Infrastructure Investment Grant: On-the-Job Training/Supportive Services
Project Description: This OJT/SS grant provides academic and occupational skills training to low-income women and minorities and places them in the highway construction industry at current wage earnings. The program will recruit 100 low-income women to attend Information Sessions to learn about Goodwill Industries Women In Highway Construction (GWIHC) program training opportunities. The program will provide training in 7 week increments, including: Construction mathematics, Physical conditioning, Hands-on building instruction, Human resources training (finance, problem-solving, community resources), CDL testing preparation, Job Readiness.
Jobs Summary: This project created/retained skilled jobs in the heavy construction field. The number of FTE jobs reflects those employees working directly on the project, and does not reflect the additional impacts this construction work has on the indirect jobs in the supply chain for heavy construction materials.
