Award Description: Grant was awarded to fund a temporary cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) increase for both Head Start and Early Head Start employees; provide quality improvement funds to improve compensation and qualifications/skills of educational personnel including those providing services to children with disabilities; creation of two classrooms to extend pilot program which focuses on working with children with behaviorial issues; renovate/repair facilities as well as repair/replace playground equipment; purchase of 70 passenger bus and van used for repairs/maintenance.

Project Description: The purpose of these floater teachers is to provide additional coverage in classrooms during teacher absences for breaks, training and school attendance. It is expected that our classrooms will have better continuity in terms of delivery of required curriculum, required ratio of teacher to children and less disruption in daily activities for the children. At least 20 teachers are expected to complete one college course leading to a BA degree. As a result of their participation in the enrichment progra, we anticipate improved behavior of children with behavioral concerns that do not meet special needs criteria. Teaching staff will be better equipped to work with children and parents who speak a language other than English. Our facilities including playgrounds will meet licensing requirements and be safer environments for the children, their parents and our staff.

Jobs Summary: Teacher floater positions who assist in classroom activities such as organizing/maintaining the classroom environment, developing individual portfolios for each child, interacting with parents. These teachers also assist by allowing teachers to take breaks, fill in when teachers attend college classes or during teacher absences. They also provide coverage in the classroom while teachers complete home visits or parent conferences. (Total jobs reported: 8)
