Award Description: The funds in this grant are awarded to Locally Operated Transit Systems to invest in public transportation. Projects included are the purchase of rolling stock including replacement and expansion buses and bus rehabilitation, bus station, bus stop and bus terminal projects, bus support equipment and facilities projects, electrification and power distribution projects, and communication equipment projects. Bus station, bus stop and bus terminal projects include the acquisition of bus fare collection equipment, surveillance and security equipment, bus route signage, bus passenger shelters, and miscellaneous bus station equipment. Bus support equipment and facilities projects include the acquisition of shop equipment, ADP hardware, mobile fare collection equipment, miscellaneous support equipment, support vehicles, administrative facilities renovations and rehabilitation and renovation of existing administrative and maintenance facilities. Electrification and power distribution projects include the purchase of automated passenger counters and miscellaneous electric and power equipment including vehicle tracking systems. Communications equipment projects include the purchase of radios and miscellaneous equipment including telephone handsets and LED informational signs. These funds are for seven subrecipients, all of which are public entities.
Project Description: Notice to proceed has been given for small and medium bus purchases. Concurrence letters have been writen for several projects.
Infrastructure Description: The MTA will spend $7.4 million in ARRA funding for more than 35 projects in rural areas of the State of Maryland to support locally operated transit systems. The funds will be used to procure buses and bus shelters; address security issues; and improve vehicle and facility maintenance areas for more efficient maintenance of transit assets. These investments will provide long-term economic benefits to transit users, local communities, and the State of Maryland.
