Award Description: The $15,000,000.00 award funded a portion of the reconstruction of Runway 9L/27R at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The award will accelerate the construction and allow the runway to be fully reconstrcuted in 2009.

Project Description: The purpose of this project is to reconstruct a portion of the deteriorated pavement of Runway 9L/27R at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. A 2005 Pavement Condition Study found that the Runway was past its useful life. A pavement failure in February 2009 resulted in the shutdown of the Runway. Through the use of ARRA funding, the planned construction project was shortened from two construction seasons to one construction season. Once completed, the newly reconstructed runway will provide 20 years or more of airfield pavement life.
