Award Description: The main objective of this project is to significantly improve highway-rail grade crossing surfaces throughout the City of Los Angeles. Many crossing surfaces are in a hazardous and dilapidated condition. Vehicles traveling across these hazardous crossing surfaces are seriously jarred. This project reconstructs crossing surfaces that are in a hazardous and dilapidated condition. Precast concrete panels will be just to improve the crossing surfaces. This work will be done by the two railroads that operate within the City of Los Angeles.
Project Description: The City of Los Angeles anticipates that the railroads will reconstruct up to three grade crossing improvements each month after the contracts have been executed. The reconstruction program will take one to two years to complete.
Jobs Summary: Contracts to complete this project will be awarded to the two freight railroads that operate within the City of Los Angeles: the Union Pacific Railroad Company and the BNSF Railway Company. These two companies will repair the railroad crossing surfaces in most need of repair along their respective right-of-ways. Staff from the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation will assist the two railroad companies in identifying the crossing in need of repair. The contracts with the two railroad companies are currently being negotiated. No jobs have therefore been either created or retained as of this report. The City of Los Angeles and its Department of Transportation will coordinate with the two railroad companies to report on the number of jobs created and/or retained in future reports.
