Award Description: ARRA funds support WVDRS as a state program that provides independent living services to individuals with significant disabilities, supports the operation of centers for independent living and the Statewide Independent Living Council, provides training on the independent living philosophy and outreach to un-served and underserved populations, conduct studies and analysis and presents information to policymakers to enhance independent living services, and support activities that increase the capacity of independent living service providers.
Project Description: ARRA funds support WVDRS as a state program that provides independent living services to individuals with significant disabilities, supports the operation of centers for independent living and the Statewide Independent Living Council, provides training on the independent living philosophy and outreach to un-served and underserved populations, conducts studies and analysis and present information to policymakers to enhance independent living services, and supports activities that increase the capacity of independent living service providers. WVDRS is planning to utilize ARRA monies to provide independent living services to individuals with significant disabilities, support the operation of centers for independent living and the Statewide Independent Living Council, provide training on the independent living philosophy and outreach to un-served and underserved populations, conduct studies and analysis and present information to policymakers to enhance independent living services, and support activities that increase the capacity of independent living service providers. This quarter, WVDRS sent award notification on September 25, 2009 to the three Centers for Independent Living within the state of West Virginia. Beginning October 2009 will accept invoices for reimbursement as each SIL expands services to eligible consumers, with emphasis on home modifications, assistive devices, communication services, vehicle modifications, and durable medical equipment.
