Award Description: The ARRA award has allowed Child Care Associates to fund a variety of activities for both our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. These include staff compensation and improved qualifications, improve program quality and ensure program compliance. CCA was able to temporarily increase current staff salaries by 1.84%. CCA will also be able to implement a career development program. This program will allow staff to participate in specific infant/toddler/preschool trainings, reimburse staff for CEUs or college courses, and supplies. Computers and printers will also be purchased to assist employees who are enrolled in college courses. Through the career development program CCA will purchase and on-line professional development plan, Teachscape. Additional training will also be provided for staff to assist them when dealing with children who have disabilities or are in crisis situations. Child Care Associates will also be able to add 6 additional teachers’ assistants. The additional assistants will help to reduce the child-to-teacher ratio and assist with chronic behaviors/conditions in specifically identified classrooms. Teacher Assistance with have a Child Development Associates, at a minimum and will obtain specific training in specialized child development areas. The Center Director will assign the TAs in classrooms where behaviors/conditions have proven to be highly disruptive or harmful to the child and others. The award will also be used to make many facility improvements. These improvements include wheelchair ramps to make access to play areas more convenient. We will be installing toddler-sized toilets and sinks. Retro fitting restroom doors in fourteen of our locations. CCA will also be able to remove existing carpet in thirteen Child Isolation Rooms. The carpet will be replaced with VCT/Tile to better support sanitation and help prevent the spread of disease.

Project Description: This quarter Child Care Associates has been able to increase the staff salaries by 1.84% for November 1, 2009 thru September 30, 2010. New toddler toilets have also been installed.
