Award Description: Grant - VR grant has been awarded to make short term program improvements that provide long term benefits; increase employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, especially those with the most significant disabilities; provide services to traditionally unserved and underserved populations, and to make an investment in the future to increase the capacity to generate employment outcomes.
Project Description: Grant funding has been utilized for the following projects: 1. Category III Waiting List – In plan vocational rehabilitation services opened up to 400 consumers on the DOR waiting list. 2. On-the-Job Training (OJT) – Initiated OJT contracts with local business to provide expanded employment opportunities for consumes. 3. Marketing, Outreach, and Communications - Purchased new Consumer Handbooks through the State Publishing Office. 4. Specialized Training For Counselors – Expanded opportunities for Autism and Diversity training for counselors. 5. Masters Degree Support – 40 counselors are enrolled in a Masters Degree training program. 6. IT Infrastructure – Purchased the hardware and software needed for the Bandwidth improvement project. 7. Deaf-Related Technology – 42 Ubi Duos purchased and distributed to Department District Offices to facilitate communication with consumers who are deaf and hard of hearing. 8. Business Enterprise Program (BEP) Vending Facilities – Purchased equipment for 4 vending sites to develop new employment opportunities with blind and visually impaired consumers. 9. Orientation Center for the Blind (OCB) Special Repairs – Developed architectural plans through the DGS-Real Estate Services Division for repairs and maintenance of the Departments 24 hour training facility.
