Award Description: The funding is provided to allow for Native American/Alaska Natives to be trained as Plumber and Pipe Fitters. The Direct Entry Pipe Fitter training is a program that provides successful graduates an opportunity to enter into a five year apprenticeship with direct entry priority with the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. The goal is to provide 16 weeks of training for approximately 100 individuals at the Union Local 597 in Mokena, Illinois as well as supportive services.
Project Description: One sixteen week training session has been held in the past year with 6 people successfully completing the program. These 6 people were also provided with supportive services during their time in training.
Jobs Summary: Graduates of this training have been placed in positions with the United Association of Plumber Pipefitters in the following areas: Chicago (2), Belleville (2), Telluride (1) and Pocatello (1). These gentlemen entered the workforce at an apprenticeship level I after 16 weeks of training. They are performing a variety of skills to support the projects until completion.
