Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act
Project Description: ARRA Quality Improvement funds will be used to: · Provide training and implement career development programs to improve staff qualifications, support ongoing professional development, and facilitate attainment of appropriate early childhood credentials. · Develop and implement a coordinated system to oversee and manage the staff credentialing process, including CDA training, that will be sustainable after ARRA funds are no longer available. · Provide PICA?s staff the opportunity to participate in a two-week CDA Intensive training, allowing them to complete training hours and competency statements. · Provide assistance for staff members to complete post-secondary course work to facilitate acquisition of credits toward relevant degree programs. · Assist staff members who possess degrees or credentials from another country and need additional assistance to obtain the U.S. equivalent of those degrees/credentials. · Improve the qualifications and skills of Education personnel to teach and provide services to children with diagnosed disabilities, ensuring that children with disabilities receive high quality services that will allow them to succeed at PICA and in school. · Provide substitute teachers while classroom staff members are attending training, college classes, or other professional development activities to allow staff members to pursue relevant professional development opportunities. ? Provide intensive training for newly designated Visiting Advocates in the areas of child development and social services to reinforce and support Individual Family Partnership Agreements that are developed through strength-based relationships and to also develop and enhance parent and child activities that support developmentally appropriate practices and school readiness skills.
