Award Description: Firefighters Fire Station Construction

Project Description: The overall purpose of the award is to build a new fire station in order for the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services to enhance its response capability and protect the Richmond community from fire and fire-related hazards. The project will replace Fire Station 17, currently located at 2901 Bainbridge Street in the South Side of Richmond. RFES Fire Station 17 was built in 1912 to accommodate horse-drawn fire fighting equipment. The age of the building and lack of local funding have resulted in serious deterioration, to the point the building poses numerous safety risks for the fire fighters who are stationed there and for the public. The Outputs will include a new, modern, adequately designed and located, LEED-certified building. The outcomes include improved daily operations, enhancement of its protective mission, and enhanced public safety. No Activity associated with this award has taken place.
