Award Description: Recovery Act: State of Michigan Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant

Project Description: Project is in the planning stages. States receiving EECGB dollars are required to use a minimum of 60% of their allocation to fund competitive grants to communities not eligible for direct EECBG awards from the Department of Energy. Michigan is making 88% available to local communities through competitive grants. As of September 30, the Bureau of Energy Systems (BES) had received and reviewed various Requests for Proposals. BES will announce and award grants in October. There will be two types of grants: 1) EECBG Multi-Purpose Grants to help eligible cities, townships, and counties implement energy efficiency and conservation strategies designed to reduce fossil fuel emissions and total energy use, and improve energy efficiency and 2) LED Demonstration Grants to allow local governments to implement projects using Light Emitting Diode (LED) products.
