Award Description: The Minnesota Department of Education received funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to assist in the pruchase of equipment for School Food Authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) through a comptetive grant process. Priority was given to SFAs for equipment for schools in which at least 50 percent of the students were eligible for free or reduced-priced meals. Other focus areas of the grant included: improving the quality of school foodservice meals to meet the dietary guidelines; improving the safety of food served in the school meal programs; improving the overall energy efficiency of the school foodservice operations; and supporting the expansion of participation in the school meal programs. To date, the Minnesota Department of Education has: 1. issued an ARRA grant solitication to SFAs participating in the NSLP; 2. recevied and scored ARRA grant applications from SFAs competitively; 3. awarded ARRA grants to SFAs participating in the NSLP; and 4. transferred fund to or rebimbursed SFAs with ARRA funds the Minnesota Department of Education received.
Project Description: During the current reporting period, the Minnesota Department of Education and 77 subrecipients used NSLP ARRA funds to purchase 9 combi ovens, 8 convection ovens, 7 convection steamers, 10 dishwashers, 6 heat cook hold ovens, 1 automatic lidding machine, 1 cook n chill system, 3 tilting skillets, 2 cold food stations, 10 freezers (including ealk in), 3 stoves, 8 refirgerators, 4 serving lines, 1 mixer, 1 salad bar, 2 refrigerated caes, 1 electric kettle.
