Award Description: This is a Time-and-Materials task order in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in the Basic Contract DE-EM0000156. The contract is for one full time equivalent (FTE) to serve as suppor for the DOE EM Recovery Act project to include provideing real-time information on best practices, lessons learned, and emerging issues.
Project Description: ? Supported an In Process Review (IPR) at Argonne National Lab (ANL) Bldg. 330 Reactor D&D Project. Building 330 was used solely as a research and housed an experimental reactor. It is currently abandoned and is considered to be well below a Hazard 3 Category facility, i.e. it is no longer a nuclear facility. Plans were reviewed and critiqued for the major activities remaining including: 1) Complete removal of remaining asbestos, complete remaining waste sampling and analysis, complete D&D engineering report and award the D&D contract 2) Demolish and dispose of entire building structure and contents as Low-Level Radioactive Waste (LLW), 3) Complete clearance surveys, backfill the excavated install a barrier cap to prevent migration of any residual Tritium contamination. ? Supported In Process Review (IPR) at Argonne National Lab (ANL) of the building 310 Irradiator Research Facility D&D Project. Building 310 was used as a nuclear fuel fabrication, food irradiation (sterilization of meat) and an incinerator facility. The IPR review included critical evaluation of the following major activities: 1) Ongoing detailed cost estimation, 2) Bids for waste characterization, 3) Environmental Assessment, 4) Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Air Permit, 5) Risk Management Plan, 6) Project Implementation Plan, 7) Final Cost/Funding Plan and 8) Radionuclide identification (Primarily Cesium 137 and Cobalt 60)
Jobs Summary: Senior Technical Advisor. STAs provide monitoring and reporting on technical, programmatic, regulatory, environmental, safety and health (ES&H) and execution of ARRA funded DOE Environmental Management projects. STA?s key duties include: Sharing lessons learned on key project issues; making recommendations on corrective actions and tracking corrective action implementation; providing daily on-site monitoring; support project critiques and reviews; reviewing effectiveness of project control capabilities; and monitoring project implementation for contractual requirements.
