Award Description: Awarded grant will assist in purchasing a new police vehicle and related emergency equipment required, acquire a new K-9 dog and necessary equipment/materials, assist in covering personnel training. The K-9 will be certified breed and will be dual trained for both narcotics and patrol. The K-9 will housed at the officer's house and available if needed. New vehicle will also be assigned to this trained officer. The addition of the K-9 program will supplement patrolling services. The goal is to serve Firebaugh's community in its protection of the officers and the public. K-9 will serve as a backup for the officers safety and prevent injuries that the offier may sustain in having to physically restrain a resisting suspect and will serve as an educational resource to school children and the community.
Project Description: The City of Firebaugh has advanced all required funds to start the project and expects to get reimburse in second quarter 2009. A new Crown Victoria police car and related emergency equipment, K-9 dog have been purchased and personnel training is in progress. The overall program progress is about over 85% complete.
