Award Description: NMED WAS AWARDED A STATE CLEAN DIESEL PROGRAM GRANT TO FUND A RETROFIT TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM FOR FLEET IN NEW MEXICO. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE GRANT IS TO REDUCE DIESEL EMISSIONS AND IMPROVE AIR QUALITY.
Project Description: The purpose of this award is to reduce the harmful exhaust emissions generated by diesel-fueled on and off road heavy duty vehicles. For this reporting period, the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) amended the scope of work for the New Mexico ARRA State Clean Diesel Grant. The grant program was amended in order to manage the program in the form of a pass-through/sub-award program, giving all diesel fleet owners (public and private) an equal opportunity to compete for grant funds. The NMED will award competitive grants from the Recovery Act Funding for the New Mexico ARRA State Clean Diesel Grant Program for projects that maximize the benefits to public health, create and/or sustain existing jobs, and reduce diesel emissions in New Mexico. Awarded grants will achieve diesel emissions reductions by retrofitting, upgrading, replacing, or reducing idling from on-road and off-road diesel engines and equipment. The Invitation to Bid was released on 9/14/09. The NMED will evaluate grant applications and award grants during the next quarter for projects that maximize the benefits to public health, create and/or sustain existing jobs, and reduce diesel emissions in New Mexico. Awarded grants will achieve diesel emissions reductions by retrofitting, upgrading, replacement, or reduced idling from on-road and off-road diesel engines and equipment.
