Award Description: The Forensic Social Worker (FSW) performs their duties at the Orange County Jail through Corrections Health Services Division. This grant position will be part of the Jail Diversion staff. The FSW position works with mentally ill inmates to provide discharge planning, create treatment plans, and coordinate services with community mental health providers, the court system, and the Public Defender's office. These inmates are being released to community treatment centers or to a family member, and a follow up plan is essential to their re-integration into the community and for successful completion of the Mental Health Pre-Trial Release program. Inmates are assessed by the Mental Health Specialty Coordinator using specific criteria and are referred to the Jail Diversion staff. Motorola Model #2, portable radio known as APX-7000; it is capable of operating in 700-800 MHz as well as UHF or VHF frequency bands. It is analog and digital capable. It also has the ability for digital encription. This radio has a larger screen display and multiple speakers for officer safety and user friendly operation. Also, the control knobs are more ergonomic. Included in the unit cost are microphones, antennas, battery, and charger.
Project Description: The budgeted Forensic Social Worker position took effect on August 24, 2009; no additional stats to report as yet. A sole source justification approval request to the Grantor Agency is being processed regarding the funds budgeted for the radios/components/batteries. Once approved, these funds will be encumbered in October/November 2009.
