Award Description: ARRA provided funding to serve additional unemployed low-income senior citizens as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is a community service and work based training program for older workers. It was authorized by Congress in Title V of the Older Americans Act of 1965 to provide subsidized, part-time, community service work based training for low-income persons age 55 or older who have poor employment prospects.
Project Description: ARRA funding will expand the number of Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) participants assigned to community service work, especially in the growth industries emphasized in the Recovery Act (e.g., health care, child care, education, green jobs, energy efficiency, and environmental services) and in expanded community service activities that utilize Recovery Act funds. This funding not only increases services and training for unemployed low-income seniors, but also provides increased community services that will invigorate and advance prosperity in the communities in which they live.
