Award Description: The Modesto Police Department will retain 3 Police Officer positions for Fiscal Years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. These positions would otherwise be unfunded until the economy and City of Modesto revenue recovers. These funds will be used in a manner that maximizes job creation and economic benefit. Retaining these officers will help maintain staffing levels for efficient emergency service response to the citizens of Modesto. The Stanislaus County Sheriff Department will retain 1/2 of a Deputy Sheriff School Resource Officer position for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. This position will help maintain School Resource Officer staffing levels and ensure continuity of community policing and dedicated law enforcement services to Tuolumne Elementary School and neighboring area. The Stanislaus County Probation Department will retain 2 Deputy Probation Officers for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. These positions will help maintain staffing levels for supervision of adult probationers convicted of domestic violence and felonious crimes and promote responsible behavior and offender accountability. The Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office will retain 1 Deputy District Attorney for Fiscal Years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. These positions will help maintain staffing levels to continue prosecuting misdemeanor cases and staff the courtrooms appropriately.
Project Description: The JAG Recovery Act funding enables the project participants to maintain current staffing levels and continue aggressive enforcement, supervision and prosecution of offenders. The Sheriff's Department has maintained 1/4 of a School Resource Deputy. This position ensures continuity of community policing and dedicated law enforcement services to Tuolumne Elementary School and neighboring areas. The Modesto Police Department maintained three Police Officers jobs. These positions help maintain staffing levels for efficient emergency service responses. The Probation Department has maintained two Probation Officer jobs. These positions help maintain staffing levels for supervision of adult probationers convicted of domestic violence and felonious crimes.
