Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act
Project Description: ARRA COLA and Quality Funds will be used to: - Increase the compensation and benefits of staff through a cost of living adjustment to improve the overall quality of the program. - Provide financial assistance to support Lead Teachers, Teachers, Translators, and Family Service Workers as they continue their education and professional development. - Purchase playground equipment that will enhance accessibility to the playground for children with disabilities. - Provide safer transportation and reduce fleet maintenance cost by purchasing two buses. - Hire three additional classroom staff to support classrooms with children who have disabilities or suspected disabilities. Quarterly Activities: - Three staff were hired - one Early Head Start staff and two Head Start staff. - Purchase orders were approved for playground equipment accessible to children with disabilities. Playground equipment was delivered and partially installed. We are awaiting complete installation and invoices. - Bids were received for buses. Negotiations began to purchase buses. - Developed a partnership with retired educators and community college representatives to assist with the selection of staff to receive financial assistance to continue their education and professional development.
