Award Description: This award will fund the cost of one forensic scientist position for 18 months. The new forensic scientist position will be responsible soley for postmortem toxicology work, which will reduce the case bqacklog and bring caseloads and turnaround times back in compliance with National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) guidelines. The Regional Forensic Science Center will monitor case load and turnaround times to access the impact of the forensic scientist on the center's performance. Primary Goals: Maintain accreditation by NAME and American Society of Crime Laboratory Directos, Provide timely and accurate toxicology analyses in accordance with NAME guidlaines. Key Deliverables: Maintain annual accrediation through 2010, Toxicology case reports completed within timelines specified by NAME guidelines and 33% reduction in caseload per current scientist.
Project Description: This grant award was issued 9/16/2009 so we have basically processed the award docuements and established the budget in our financial system. Next process is to obtain approval to add the toxicologist position to the staffing table and advertise the position and accept job applications for review and selection.
