Award Description: Head Start ARRA COLA Quality Improvement Funding
Project Description: Quality Improvement Proposal Narrative Substitute Teacher Program The Head Start/Early Head Start Program will implement a Substitute Teacher Program. The objective of the program is to ensure that there is always adequate staff coverage. Increase in Operation of Program Year The Head Start/Early Head Start Program proposes to extend the school year of Head Start children form 175 days to 180 days. Staff is critical to the individual as well as to the growth of the program. The Miami-Dade CAA recognizes this area as being one that must be continues. Traditionally, staff returns from the summer recess one week prior to the opening of school. Training are held during the annual Pre-Service conference along with meetings at the individual centers. Staff is busy making preparations for the children who will enter their doors the following week. There are a number of requirements, locally and state wide that require each staff?s participant. Many of these trainings are focused on licensing and compliance areas. Because the trainings are vast in scope, the program has determined that it will need three additional days for training. In light of this, we are proposing to bring back staff three days prior to the annual pre-service conference. Funding for this activity will cost $172,484.00 Status: 1.Substitute Teacher Pool is in process. 2.Increase in Program year won't happen until the end of the regular program year. 3.Staff has occurred and staff has received training.
