Award Description: BJA FY09 Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program Local Solicitation. The Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funded under the Recovery Act is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. Recovery JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment, and justice information sharing initiatives. Recovery JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures. The disparate jurisdictions consisting of Cabarrus County and the cities of Concord and Kannapolis will share the Recovery Act JAG award in the amount of $255,502. to improve communication systems and purchase necessary equipment. The City of Concord, serving as the fiscal lead agent, will use $120,974 to purchase 20 portable digital radios and 13 in-car cameras. The City of Kannapolis will use $71,913 to purchase 18 mobile radios that are equipped with digital technology. Cabarrus County will use $62,615 to purchase a Speed Monitoring Awareness System, Protable Digital Spee Display Unit, and Kustom Signals video camera systems. The goal of this project is to study and monitor traffice patterns and problems for speed limit changes and recommendations.
