Award Description: The objective of this grant funding is to retain a position in the Chatham County Sheriff's Office that will be dropped without grant funding. Funding will allow the continuation of a Criminal Enforcement/K9 Team Field Supervisor, who will continue the following activities: supervision of the Criminal Enforcement Team; the training and handling of police dogs; the improved coordination with other state, Federal, and local law enforcement agencies; and increased accuracy of operations and statistics.
Project Description: The main goal for this funding is job preservation. The Criminal Enforcement/K9 Team Field Supervisor position will continue providing administrative and field supervision to our criminal enforcement team that specializes in recognizing criminal offenders in transit and before, during or after the commission of a criminal offence. The supervisor will also be responsible for the training and handling of the Sheriff's Office two certified police dogs to ensure that the service dogs and their handlers are properly trained, certified, and deployed.
