Award Description: The Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) received funds through the American recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009(ARRA) to pay cost associated with the distribution of USDA foods purchased for use in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Such costs include storage, transportation, handling, processing and distribution of such foods; as well as cost associated with record keeping, auditing, and other administrative procedures required for program participation. To date, MDHS has: 1. Provided funds to organizations to food banks that distribute to local food pantries and soup kitchens. 2. As of September 30, 2009, 833,806 pounds of food has been received at a value of $923,014.07. 3. As of September 30, 2009, 608,035 pounds of food has been distributed to local food pantries and soup kitchens at a value of $728,521.31. 4. As of September 30, 2009 a total of $261,256 of TEFAP ARRA administrative funds has been expended.
Project Description: The funds will be used to distribute TEFAP food that was purchased with TEFAP ARRA funds on a federal level and received at both subgranting agencies. The food will be distributed to local pantries and soup kitchens. It is the indent that all food will be distributed in a timely manner. To date, MDHS has: 1. Provided funds to organizations to food banks that distribute to local food pantries and soup kitchens. 2. As of September 30, 2009, 833,806 pounds of food has been received at a value of $923,014.07. 3. As of September 30, 2009, 608,035 pounds of food has been distributed to local food pantries and soup kitchens at a value of $728,521.31. 4. As of September 30, 2009 a total of $261,256 of TEFAP ARRA administrative funds has been expended.
