Award Description: The Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program permits funding for a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions. JAG funds may be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems for criminal justice, as well as criminal justice-related research and evaluation activities that will improve or enhance the following purpose areas: Law Enforcement Programs; Prosecution and Court Programs; Prevention and Education Programs; Corrections and Community Corrections Programs; Drug Treatment and Enforcement Programs; Planning, Evaluation, and Technology Improvement Programs and Crime Victim and Witness Programs (other than compensation).

Project Description: PCCD has been developing numerous competitive funding announcements based on a funding plan approved by the Commission at its June 9, 2009 meeting. Nine applications were presented to and approved by the Commission at its September 8, 2009 meeting. The 9 applications total $1,648,115 and are for the time period October 1, 2009-September 30, 2011. Also in the September meeting, the Commission discussed the ARRA JAG funding plan approved at its June 9, 2009 meeting and whether it should be modified based on what might happen when the state budget is passed. The Commission decided to reconvene to re-examine the funding plan after the budget is passed as soon as a quorum can attend unless all of PCCD’s state appropriations are approved at the levels in the Governor’s budget. To date, Pennsylania's state budget is not approved. The proposed date for the special Commission meeting is October 26, 2009. There are no active subgrants during the initial reporting period. The December 31, 2009 reporting period will be the first report to contain subgrantee information.
