Award Description: This program will train Ph.D. students at The Scripps Research Institute in the principles of evolutionary mechanisms in biological systems, and in the application of those principles in the laboratory to problems of biomedical science. ARRA funding will support the participation of three students for two years in the program. During that time, the students will take graduate-level classes in these subjects, perform laboratory research, and engage with leading international scientists in the field. The knowledge and insights obtained from these efforts will be disseminated to the scientific community by the students' participation in local and national meetings, authoring of scientific publications, and contributions to a web-based resource on molecular evolution.
