Award Description: The City of Chickasha has seen an increase of 20% in crime statistics during the first quarter of 2009 as compared to the first quarter of 2008. Violent crimes has reduced but property crime has increased. The Chickasha Police Department and the Grady County Sheriff's Office planto participate to gether ina COMSTAT program desinged to identify high crime area and selected enforcement techniques to reduce crime i those areas. Recent studies by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a project sponsored by the National Institute of Justice indicate that traffic law enforcement can be an effective mechanism for disrupting organized criminal enterprises, particularly when thse groups market drugs and illegal firearms. It is our believe that a majority of our property crimes are linked to drug activity. Both agencies will purchase equipement and supplies to implement and enhance the program. Both agencies desire to make purchases as soon as possible to assist with the economic stimulus and to implement the program.
