Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act.
Project Description: Project Description: - Increase compensation/benefits through COLA - Stipends for BA degrees to designated staff for retention - Stipends for professional development for completing college units - Hire full-time 6 HS teacher assistants, 1 HS Support Services Assistant, 1 HS Support Services Clerk, 1 EHS Teacher/Caregiver - Extend 10 ECE Specialist positions 1 month for retention - Improve physical environments for health & safety of children - Offset increased health insurance benefit costs Quarterly Activities: - All staff received COLA effective 7/1/09 - 48 HS and 5 EHS qualified designated staff received BA stipends September 2009 - Stipends for completing college units is pending - Hired 1 HS Teacher Assistant and 1 HS Support Services Assistant - Completed Year 1 extension of 1 month this quarter - Completed 2/3 of all physical environment renovation/repairs: 3 fences, 2 centers’ window replacements, 6 centers’ flooring replacement, 2 centers’ siding/painting, 2 centers’ AC units replaced, 1 center’s interior painting & tackable walls replaced, 1 center’s playground equipment relocated & re-installed, 13 childrens’ computers installed. Maintenance vehicles bids, shade structure bids, & termite treatment bids received. - Pending offset of increased health benefit costs
