Award Description: Grant - The purpose of this award is to assist the grantee in carrying out a national service program as authorized by the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1990, as amended (42 U.S.C. Section 12501 et seq.) and in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Project Description: This grant award supports 10 organizations to recruit, train, and retain 694 AmeriCorps members in the delivery of critical services targeting youth, adults, seniors, and non-profit organization most negatively impacted by the economic crisis. Project activities take place in 101 service locations throughout CA and include activities such as weatherization, environmental restoration, self-sufficiency skills development, job placement and skills training, case management of high risk families, and non-profit capacity building. Expected outcomes include job placement and counseling, improved energy efficiency for low-income homes through weatherization, expansion of youth services, increased financial literacy rates of low-income residents, and increased non-profit capacity to serve additional high need populations through volunteer generation.
Jobs Summary: Due to Recovery funding, we created and retained 271.18 AmeriCorps member positions. These members provided the activities described in the project description section. We also created and retained 28 AmeriCorps staff positions. (Total jobs reported: 299)
