Award Description: During this last funding period, the ARC Laboratory Core has developed a state-of-the-art FACS facility. In addition to our previously existing FACSCalibur flow cytometer, the Core acquired 3 top model FACS pieces of equipment. These new additions of the FACS facility has tremendously expanded the Core Support to research projects associated with the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center. In order to accommodate the ever-expanding specific requirements of our investigators, we will hire a new technician (award will cover 50% of salary) and pay an additional 50% of the existing FACS specialist's salary. Funds have also been requested for supplies dut to the increased number of analyses being performed in the Lab Core. Enhancement of cell analysis and sorting facilities in the Lab Core of the CARC is critical to strengthen the Core support of ongoing studies related to the negative impact of alcohol abuse on the progression of AIDS diseases.
