Award Description: Improving the overall quality of Niagara County Headstart, Inc. through increased compensation and benefits to our staff as well as improved computer technology and conditions for the families and children of our program. ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act
Project Description: Project Description: 1. Increase the compensation and benefits of staff through a cost of living adjustment to improve the overall quality of the program. 2. Temporarily increase Parent Activity Funds from $4 per child to $10 to allow Parent Committee an opportunity to provide workshops. 3. Replace Administrative copier to improve quality and cost per copy. 4. Install new outdoor playground unit at our new location which currently is without euipment. 5. Replace many classroom computers and purchase new software focused on literacy and language for young children. 6. Career development funds allocated for Niagara County Headsatrt, Inc. classroom teachers to improve skills in providing services for children with disabilities and English as a second language. 7. Moving expense to move our administrative offices as well as our largest center to our new home. Quarterly Activities 1. All staff received cost of living adjustment effective July 1, 2009. Our employees receive separate checks for the time worked during that month. These checks will be distributed once a month and will end 9/30/2010. 2. We have increased the funds available for parent activites effective September 1, 2009. 3. Copier bids are in the process of being reviewed. 4. Playground bids are in the process of being reviewed. 5. Computer and software bids are in the process of being reviewed. 6. Employess were notified of Career Development funds availability and encouraged to pursue additional education in the areas of focus. 7. Moving project has been completed.
