Award Description: This administrative supplement proposal requests funds to expand the research scope of Project II ('Pharmacogenetics of Metformin Action in PCOS') of the VCU SCCPRIR program by hiring a part-time Clinical Research Coordinator whose specific role will be to facilitate the newly established collaboration on this project with Dr. William Evans at the University of Virginia (see recent noncompetitive renewal application for details and Dr. Evans' biosketch). The aim of Project II ('Pharmacogenetics of Metformin Action in PCOS') is to determine whether SNP_rs8111699 in STK11, or SNPs in other candidate genes identified in Project III of VCU's SCCPRIR, influence the ovulatory response to metformin for nine months, and that daily urines be obtained for assessment of ovulation by determination of urinary pregnanediol-3-gluronide. Because a large number of women need to be recruited into the study, a colloboration has been formed with Dr. William Evans at the University of Virginia. Dr. Evans has a large reproductive endocrinology practice, with many women who are not actively pursuing pregnancy but are seeking improvement of ovulary frequency and menstrual cyclicity. Dr. Evans' collaboration will greatly accelerate the tempo of this research and enhance the likelihood for success. However, in order for the collaboration with Dr. Evans to be successful, it is critical that there be a Clinical Research Coordinator to facilitate the collaboration and to act as the liaison between Dr. Evans practice and Dr. Nestler's laboratory. This administrative supplement proposal requests funds for hiring a part-time Clinical Research Coordinator who would serve this function.
