Award Description: The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

Project Description: New Officer hired 8/28/09 and is currently in the training stage working with a seasoned Officer. Training includes becoming familiar with Department's SOP, learning City streets, communities & neighborhoods, businesses, and industries. Officer is becoming familiar with individual citizens and business owners to promote trust and communication. Learning problem areas and how individuals are affected by varied types of crime. Gathering information that will impact the effective methods and standards to combat crime.

Jobs Summary: One Officer position awarded / One new hire - Along with his duties of protecting & serving the public, the officer will strive to teach and promote Community Oriented Policing. Recovery Act funds helps the Police Department to focus through this Officer in developing & maintaining local relationships with residents, community leaders, and business leaders to promote positive interaction to deter crime.
