Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act

Project Description: Project Description ARRA COLA and Quality Funds will be used to: ·Pay the anticipated increase of health and dental insurance costs for staff at our annual renewal date in December 2009. ·Increase the tuition reimbursement from $200 to $500 per semester (with a maximum of $1,000 per calendar year) for staff completing higher education courses. ·Increase the compensation and benefits of staff through a cost of living adjustment to improve the overall quality of the program. ·Increase 41-week academic year employees to 44 weeks to allow all Head Start employees to participate in three weeks of pre-service training and orientation. ·Provide training to increase the skills of personnel working with children with disabilities through providing training allowing staff to become certified infant massage instructors. ·Provide training on Sensory Integration to increase the skills of personnel working with children with disabilities. ·Increase the Early Head Start nurse from .30FTE to .69FTE, or from 11 hours per week to 26 hours per week. Quarterly activities ·Tuition reimbursement has been increased effective September 1, 2009. Staff members have been notified about the increase and the procedure to utilize to obtain the reimbursement. ·All staff received a cost of living adjustment effective July 1, 2009. ·Academic year employees started pre-service training on August 17, 2009, allowing three weeks of orientation and training before the start of Head Start classes on September 8. ·Sensory Integration training and Infant Massage certification training will be scheduled early in 2010. ·The position for the Early Head Start nurse was posted, candidates interviewed, and a nurse has been hired to start in October. The position became vacant when the Early Head Start nurse, before notification of the ARRA award, moved to another position within the agency that offered more hours.
