Award Description: Support for three undergraduates to work on summer projects on hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC). They worked on proteomic and genomic data to construct a molecular profile of HCC and the steps in the progression from hepatitis C virus infection to cirrhosis to HCC.
Project Description: Same as award activities.
Jobs Summary: Spectral data miner: Mine spectral data for post-Translational modification in hepatitis-C virus related HCC. Data validater: Validate results from experimental mice to determine whether we see similar patterns of disease-related proteins and/or peptides. Validation process invovles the selection of plasma and tissue samples, preparation of samples, ELISAs and interpretation. 1 postion to work on the role of hepatitis C virus infection in the development of liver cancer. Some of the proteins and/or peptides that changed during hepatitis infection are likely related directly to cancer and the position is looking at the specific molecular pathways involved.
