Award Description: Expansion of C.A.R.E. Center Services to Include Trauma Intervention Services for Child Crime Victims
Project Description: The current process of delivering services for physically and sexually abused children during both regular business hours and after-hours at the C.A.R.E. Center and the emergency department at Akron Children's Hospital has been delineated, as well as processes for the expansion of the services funded under ARRA. A child who presents with the complaint of child abuse will immediately be assigned to an advocate who will guide the child and their family through C.A.R.E. Center services and will provide education, support, and counseling to the child and family. All position descriptions have been written and are currently waiting for their final approval. Due to the late notification of our award, the timeline was revised with a projected roll-out date of February 1, 2010. An initial meeting with the Tri-County Child Advocacy Center on the Mahoning Valley campus was completed and the current process of service delivery was mapped out. The administrative staff of the hospital have been meeting to outline a restructuring plan for the C.A.R.E. Center and the Children Who Witness Violence Program. A financial center for grant dollars has been created so there is no commingling of federal money.
