Award Description: Law Enforcement: The County will be conducting overtime patrols in the city of Racine, and will purchase and equip a patrol vehicle. The Village of Caledonia will purchase light bars for it patrol vehicles. The Village of Mt. Pleasant will equip its vehicles with rapid-response equipment including patrol rifles, ballistic shields, and helmets. Technology Improvement Programs: The City of Racine will devote a substantial portion of its allocation to the enhancement of several technology related initiatives. A priority will be the expansion and upgrade of video systems currently utilized by the Racine Police Department. This includes both our neighborhood security cameras and our in-car video systems. We will also be replacing several mobile data computers which have reached the end of their useful life. We will enhance our Phoenix CAD/RMS with system upgrades and utilization of a consultant to improve our ability to use this software to its full capability. The Villages of Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant will use a portion of their allocation to supplement the purchase of fully enhanced Phase II 9-1-1 systems. The new systems are Next-Generation, have IP integrated technology, and are capable of rapid deployment in multiple locations. Prosecution Program: The Racine Police Department will use a portion of its allocation to fund the cost of a contracted prosecutor for the Racine County District Attorney’s Office. Racine City of Racine and neighboring jurisdictions have an identified gang issue. Recognition of this gang-related criminal behavior led to the creation of a county-wide, multi-jurisdictional task force. The prosecutor funded by this grant will be responsible for daily coordination of criminal referrals involving known gang members.
