Award Description: The goal of the Minnesota Petroleum Remediation Program (PRP) is to protect human health and the environment by evaluating, minimizing, or correcting petroleum contamination impacts to soil and water caused by leaking storage tank systems. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will use Recovery Act funds to complete environmental assessments and necessary cleanups at contaminated sites. Sites must fit the eligibility criteria for the Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Recovery Act funding, as well as have the potential of being able to meet both Recovery Act and environmental benefit measures. An existing PRP process of taking over sites without viable responsible parties and completing work through an existing state of Minnesota master contract will be used for performing cleanup activities. PRP sites have been prioritized based upon LUST ARRA guidance and will be addressed in a manner that best accomplishes program and funding goals.
Project Description: Program implementation and project management activities were initiated in order to prioritize the final Petroleum Remediation Program sites and select consultants for performing work. Consultants under the existing state master contract submitted proposals to work on eligible projects. These proposals were selected based on criteria established by the program to obtain the best consultant for each project. During this calendar quarter: 21 site assessments were initiated, 0 site assessments completed, 0 cleanups initiated, and 0 cleanups completed, throughout Minnesota. Cumulative totals: 0 site assessments initiated, 0 site assessments completed, 0 cleanups initiated, and 0 cleanups completed, throughout Minnesota.
