Award Description: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was awarded a State Clean Diesel Program Grant to fund a retrofit project or program targeting school buses in Texas. The general purpose of the grant is to reduce diesel emissions and improve air quality.

Project Description: The TCEQ identified 44 ISDs and charter schools, who had already filled out and sent in applications to retrofit school buses, as possible recipients of the ARRA funding. The TCEQ integrated the'1512' reporting requirements into a contract shell. The number of school buses projected to be retrofitted is between 250 and 300 buses. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality plans to notify the recipients of the available funding and initiate contracts with school districts in October 2009. Anticipated outcome will be a reduction in particulate matter emissions from school buses.
