Award Description: The grant allows state and local jurisdictions to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system by creating jobs, retaining jobs, and providing operational resources. Projects to be funded include drug task forces which will report on the number of drugs recovered; specialized vertical prosecution units which will report on the number of cases prosecuted and the prosecution results; criminal justice records improvement projects which will report on the impact of enhancements; improvement of forensic examinations which will report on the increase in efficiency and effectiveness; offender management, treatment and re-entry programs which will report on the program outcomes; planning efforts for school emergency response and a family justice center which will report on the planning results; sex offender registry which will report on improved registration compliance. All projects will report on the number of jobs created and retained.
Project Description: Two Planning Specialist were hired and receivwed Financial Management Training from OCFO and Civil Rights Training from OCR. There were two subrecipients for this reporting period. Project 09-SU-01 consists of a specialized vertical prosecution unit which will improve public safety on the County of Kauai through efficient and effective prosecution of those who commit crimes of domestic violence. Project 09-SU-02, is working on upgrading an information system that tracks juvenile law offenders.
