Award Description: The ultimate goal of this project is two-fold, to promote economic recovery to the local communities and to prevent and combat crime within the Squaxin Island and Mason County communities. Funds awarded throught DOJ Recovery Act: Assistance to Rural Law Enforcement to Combat Crime and Drugs, the Squaxin Tribe will be used to hire a full-time Officer focused primarily on suspected drug activity within the Squaxin community and who will work in tandem with the Mason County Special Operations Group, (SOG) to combat illicit drug trafficking within the boundaries of the reservation and county. In addition, funds provided through this grant will allow the Tribe to proactively coordination efforts between stakeholders and build new collaborations/partnerships with other jurisdictions. All project activity will occur expeditiously in accordance with federal requirements and guidelines.
