Award Description: The Conasauga Drug Court Program was started in February of 2002 by Judge Jack Partain and is a 24 month, post-plea program that was designed around the ten key components of drug courts developed by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and the National Drug Court Institute. Participants are required to attend group and individual counseling, AA or NA type meetings, hold a job, get their GED and volunteer for community service, among other things. They are held accountable for their actions while they are taught the skills to break their addiction. Over ninety people have graduated from the program, with many more to follow. With funds obtained through this grant, we hope to offer this life saving program to more of our deserving citizens. The goals and objectives of our program for the next four years are: ? Preserving jobs ? Creating jobs ? Maintain current level of participants, possibly expand the number of participants (which would increase the number of people getting and maintaining jobs) ? Continue low rate of recidivism among participants ? Continue to reduce drug use and increase treatment retention among participants ? Continue reduction in system costs associated with drug-involved offenders. Upon receipt of this grant, we will successfully save or not reduce the hours for three positions. We will also create two part time participant assistant positions. By preserving these positions, we will be able to maintain the current level of participants - who are all required to have jobs. The recidivism rate among program participants is 9%, which is unheard of! We will maintain or lower this level and reduce drug use and increase treatment retention by increasing program contact through our two new positions. Our program is saving our county $28.58 a day for each participant in our program. By maintaining the level of participants, we will continue to save the county over $100,000 every year.
